Korean style BBQ is eaten without dipping it into sauce at the table. The meat is already seasoned by marinating it overnight in seasoning sauce, which is made from soy sauce, fruit juice, and other ingredients.

Japanese style BBQ is, on the other hand, eaten with a dipping sauce at the table because the meat is not marinated beforehand. Japanese don't like discolored meat, which occurs when meat is marinated overnight in seasoning sauce.

Yakiniku, Japanese style BBQ, was developed by a Japanese-Korean in Ueno, Tokyo, a Koreatown in Japan, right after World War II.
